Anyone have Lean Metrology and Test Equipment Departments?

I work as a Sr Manufacturing Engineer at Kollsman in Merrimack, NH. We're 'leaning' out our Metrology and Test Equipment functions. We currently have 10000+ items under calibration control and it's a daunting task.
I'm looking for a good example of a truly LEAN calibration and test equipment department. If any of the members has already been through this process, I'd like to hear from them and take a tour if possible.
